Contact form marketing

Contact form marketing means sending a short business message through the contact form each company publishes on its own website, instead of a cold email. Contact Form Outreach is contact form marketing software: you type what the companies do, and we find them, fill in each contact form, and bring back proof and contacts.

Finding the companies is free when you send to them. $0.09 for each form that goes through. $10 covers about 111.

Contact form marketing, in short

Contact form marketing is B2B outreach through other companies' website contact forms. You write one short message, it is sent through each company's own form, and it lands in the inbox the company set up for messages from its website. No email accounts to set up, no list to buy.

  • You pay only for forms that go through.
  • In our tests of about 10,000 sends, the message went through on 90 to 96% of websites with a contact form.
  • The rules differ by country: some want a business to agree first.

Two meanings

Contact form marketing vs a form on your own site

People use the phrase for two different things. This page is about the first: you write to companies through their contact forms. For the second, see ten habits for your own form.

How it works

Contact form marketing in five steps

You choose the companies and write your message once. We do the rest.

  1. Choose the companies

Type what they do, pick a country and how many, and we find them, free when you send to them. Or bring your own list.

  2. Write your message once

Each company gets its own version, written from its website, in its own language.

  3. Approve the list

Take off any company you do not want. Nothing is sent until you approve.

  4. We fill in the forms

Each company gets your message once, through its own form, during office hours in its country. CAPTCHAs solved free.

  5. Proof and contacts

A picture of each form filled in and of the page after sending, plus the emails and phones each site lists. Replies come to your own email.

How contact collection works

On a company's website we scan more than the contact page. We find the general email address sales@northwind.example on the contact page, the general phone number +44 20 7946 0143 on the about page, and a named person, Anna de Vries in Sales, with her own email address on the team page. Each one becomes a row in your spreadsheet with the contact, its type, who it belongs to and the page it was found on: 3 contacts found. Then you download the list as a spreadsheet (Excel or CSV).

Compared with cold email, and what it costs

Contact form marketing vs cold email

Open with the contact form. Add cold email when you need to reach one named person.

Contact form

Cold email

Contact form: your message is typed into the company's own contact form, sent, and arrives in the company inbox. Delivered. Cold email: each email has to get through domain warm-up and spam filters, and some end up in the spam folder instead of the inbox.

A sample message

What a contact form marketing message looks like

Short, clear about who is writing, with one small ask. Change the words in brackets.

Our exampleTo: [type of company] in [city]

Subject: [Your service] for [type of company] in [city]

Hello,

I am [your name] from [your company]. We do [your service] for [type of company] in [city], so that [the result they care about].

If that could help you, I would be glad to explain how we work in a short call. If someone else looks after this, could you pass this message on to them?

Best regards,
[your name], [your company]
[email] · [phone]

Why it works:

  • The subject says what is offered and to whom, so the reader can sort it in a moment.
  • It names one result, not a long list of services.
  • The ask is small, and passing it on is easy.

With the AI writer on, each company gets its own version of this message, written from its website, in its own language. More examples are in our sales pitch examples.

Who it is for

Who uses contact form marketing

Any business that sells to other businesses and wants new conversations without buying a list.

  • Agencies

Run every client from one account, and show each client the proof.

  • B2B sales teams

Use your list or ours, then follow up with the contacts we collect.

  • Founders

Reach your first hundred companies without a list.

  • Partners and suppliers

Find distributors, resellers or suppliers in a new country.

What to expect

What comes back from a campaign

We do not promise a reply rate: that depends on your offer, your message and the companies you pick. Here is what we can stand behind.

  • 90 to 96%

of websites with a contact form took the message in our tests of about 10,000 sends, protected sites included.

  • $0

for a company with no contact form, or a form that does not go through. It is left out or refunded, never charged.

  • Per company

a picture of the form filled in, a picture of the page after sending, and the emails and phone numbers the site lists.

Start with $10

Replies come to your own email. Tips for more of them: how to follow up

Best practice

Six contact form marketing mistakes to avoid

Each one costs replies, and the app guards against three of them.

  • Writing to everyone

A short list of companies that need what you offer beats a long one.

  • A long first message

Say who you are, what you offer and one small ask. Leave the brochure for the reply.

  • Writing more than once

One message per company. The app never puts a company on a list twice.

  • Ignoring a no

Companies that ask you to stop go on your do-not-contact list, and no campaign reaches them again.

  • Skipping the rules

Some countries want a business to agree first. Check where the companies are before you send.

  • No way to reach you

End with your name, company, email and phone.

The rules

Is contact form marketing legal?

It depends on the country, on who you write to and on what your message says. No court or regulator we found has ruled on contact forms. General information, not legal advice.

Where the companies areThe usual rule for a first message to a business
US, France, and UK companiesA first message to a business is generally allowed, as long as it can say no.
Canada, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, ItalyThe business generally has to agree first.

Questions about contact form marketing

Questions before your first campaign? A person answers at hello@contactformoutreach.com.

What is contact form marketing?

Sending a short business message through the contact form each company publishes on its own website, instead of guessing its email address. The message arrives in the inbox the company set up for messages from its website.

Are marketing forms and contact form marketing the same thing?

No. Marketing forms sit on your own website and wait for visitors to write to you. Contact form marketing means you write first, through other companies' contact forms.

Is it the same as contact form lead generation?

Yes, seen from the result. Each reply is a lead, and each campaign also collects the emails and phone numbers the sites list, so you can follow up with the companies that answer.

What is contact form submission marketing?

Another name for contact form marketing. Each submission is your message, sent through a company's own contact form, and you pay only for the ones that go through.

Do I need my own list of companies?

No. Type what the companies do, pick a country and how many, and we find them for you, free when you send to them. If you have a list, paste the websites or upload a spreadsheet (Excel or CSV) instead.

What does it cost?

$0.09 for each form that goes through, the same at any volume. Finding the companies you send to and solving CAPTCHAs are free, and a form that does not go through costs nothing. No subscription.

What reply rate can I expect?

We do not quote one, because it depends on your offer, your message and the companies you pick. What we can say: every form that goes through comes with proof, and companies reply to your own email.

How do I track the results?

Every form that goes through comes with a picture of the form filled in and of the page after sending, with the page address, date and time. Contacts download as Excel or CSV, and webhooks can tell your own software when a form goes through.

Can each company get the message in its own language?

Yes. Switch on the AI writer and each company gets its own version of your message, in its own language, at no extra cost. Or switch it off and upload your own versions.

What is a contact form blast?

Sending one message to as many contact forms as possible. It is the opposite of what works: pick the companies that need what you offer, write once to each, and respect a no.

Is contact form marketing legal?

Rules differ by country. Some countries treat unsolicited advertising sent through a contact form like advertising email, which can need the company's consent first. Check the rules where the companies are, or ask a lawyer. Our guide lists what to check. It is general information, not legal advice.

The other meaning

How to get more enquiries from your own contact form

Keep it short, put it where people decide, and answer fast. Ten habits that help more visitors write to you:

  1. Ask only for what you will use

A name, an email and the message are often enough. Each extra field is one more reason to stop.

  2. Say why to write

One line above the form: what happens next and how soon you answer.

  3. Put it where people look

On the contact page, and on the pages where people decide: pricing, services, the end of a case study.

  4. Name the button

"Send my question" or "Get a quote" says more than "Submit".

  5. Make it easy on a phone

Large fields, the right keyboard for email and phone, and no tiny boxes to tick.

  6. Split long forms into steps

A quote request with many questions reads easier as two or three short steps than one long page.

  7. Offer another way in

Show an email address and a phone number next to the form, for people who prefer them.

  8. Confirm, then answer fast

Show a clear thank-you, send a short confirmation, and reply while the enquiry is still fresh.

  9. Stop spam gently

Use a spam check that real people pass without a puzzle.

  10. Measure and route it

Count visits against messages sent, and send each enquiry to the person or CRM that will answer it.
